Work Permit (EAD) with Form I-765, Initial and Renewal
You need an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) if your status in the US does not allow you to work by itself: parole, TPS, a pending green card application, H-4 spouses and other cases. We prepare Form I-765 and the documents, file it with USCIS and track the case until the card arrives. Our fee is $350 for an initial EAD or a renewal. USCIS fees are paid separately.

What we do for your Form I-765
Form I-765 is the USCIS application for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Every basis has its own category code, such as (c)(11) or (a)(12). The category decides the documents, the fee and whether you can file online.
The most common mistake is the wrong category or an incomplete fee. USCIS rejects the application, and you lose time. So we start by checking your basis, and only then prepare the application.
We review your status and documents: I-94, the parole or TPS decision, the green card receipt notice. We identify the category and the fee. Whether your case fits, we confirm at the consultation.
We complete the application with the correct category, check the details against your earlier USCIS documents, and prepare the photos and copies.
We file online through your USCIS account if your category allows it, or send the package by mail. If an additional fee applies, we pay it separately.
We track the case, explain USCIS notices and prepare a response to a request for evidence. A response to a request is a separate service for $250.
Who can get a work permit
Below are common bases for an EAD. This is a guide to USCIS categories, not a full list. Whether your case fits, we confirm at the consultation.
Common bases
People paroled into the US need an EAD to work. Since 2025, an additional fee applies to the initial EAD and to renewals, and it cannot be waived.
Temporary Protected Status gives you the right to an EAD. The card's validity depends on the TPS period for your country, so we follow TPS extension decisions.
If you filed Form I-485 to adjust status, you can get a work permit while you wait. If your I-485 was filed with a fee after April 1, 2024, the I-765 fee is lower, $260.
An H-4 spouse of an H-1B worker can get an EAD in certain cases, for example when the H-1B worker has an approved Form I-140. The I-765 can be filed together with Form I-539 and the employer's petition.
How to get a work permit
USCIS processing times depend on the category and change every month. Check the current ones on the USCIS processing times page.
There is no automatic EAD extension for renewals filed on or after October 30, 2025, except certain TPS cases. That is why it is better to file early: USCIS accepts a renewal up to 180 days before your card expires.
Common work permit mistakes
Most I-765 denials and delays are not about your right to work, but about the paperwork. This is what we check before filing.
If you are applying for a green card inside the US, the work permit is part of our adjustment of status package ($1,750), so you don't pay for the I-765 separately.
