Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for family reunion with my partner if they have a temporary visa in the UK?
You cannot apply for a family visa if your family member is temporarily in the UK on a temporary work or student visa. Instead, you can apply to live with them as a dependent.
How long after receiving a family reunion visa can I apply for permanent residency?
You must live continuously for at least 5 years on this visa as a partner before applying for permanent residency. This period does not include time spent on other visas or if you were in the UK as a fiancé(e).
Do I need to take a language test to apply for this visa?
When applying for a family reunion visa, applicants will need to prove their knowledge of English by taking the SELT test with at least an A1 level.
How does the biometric submission work?
You will need to print the confirmation of your application and appointment, then visit a UK visa center where they will take your fingerprints, photograph you, and keep your passport for visa stamping.
If I only have one passport, do I have to leave it at the visa center?
After biometric submission, your passport will be taken while the decision is made and the visa is stamped. However, you can pay for the ‘keep my passport’ service to have it returned on the day of biometric submission. Once a decision is made, you will need to send your passport back to the visa center for the visa to be stamped if your visa is approved.
If I urgently need a visa, can I pay for expedited processing?
Expedited processing is currently limited, as all immigration services are focused primarily on refugee programs for Ukrainians. However, this option may still be available at some visa centers. You can check if expedited processing is available at your required visa center.
Can I only find out the visa decision when my passport is returned?
When a decision on your visa is made, you will receive an email. Usually, if the visa is approved, the email attachment will be empty. If the visa is refused, the email will contain a detailed explanation of the reasons. However, the final confirmation of whether your visa has been granted or not will come when you receive your passport.
